~Anita Hornung~

COST: Anita Hornung, age 90, passed away at home on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

She was born April 27, 1934 in Niagara Falls, New York to Harvey and Mildred Walters Moore.

She attended Niagara Falls High School and then worked at National Carbon for years to earn money for college. She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, majoring in missionary nursing. She then attended Mount Sinai School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating in 1962. In 1972 Anita studied for and worked as an Intensive Care Nurse at Orange County Medical Center in California. Later she studied to become a School Nurse Practitioner at the University of Colorado in 1984 and the following year studied to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In 1996, she studied in San Antonio to become a massage therapist, and subsequently worked in Kerrville. She worked as a nurse at hospitals in Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Pasadena and El Campo. She was a school nurse at UT in Austin, at SMU, Gonzales and Edinburg. She was a Methodist Wesley Nurse in Kerrville from 1997 to 2005.

Her hobbies included camping, snow skiing, dancing, ice skating, roller skating, oil painting, writing, and reading.

Survivors: husband, Pastor Warren Hornung; sons, John Hornung and Billy Hornung (Kari); grandchildren, Laura Hornung, David Hornung (Aly), William Hornung and Abigial Hornung; sisters, Edith Cotton, Iris Aughtman and Donna Martin.

Preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph Moore.

 Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Yoakum. Interment of her cremains will be at Monthalia Methodist Church Cemetery at a later date.
