~Dewitt "David" Poth~

Dewitt A (David) Poth, Jr. of Yoakum and Rockport, Texas was born July 27, 1937 in Yoakum, Texas to parents, Dewitt A, Sr. and Willie Mae Svoboda Poth.   Dewitt just celebrated his 80th birthday.  He was a graduate of Yoakum High School, attended Victoria College and Southwest Texas State University. He married Barbara Mayrant in 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Yoakum, Tx.  Dewitt joined the family business, Dewitt Poth and Son, that was established by his father in 1939. David and Barbara worked side by side in the business for many years along the way acquiring many awards and accolades from the companies they represented, including Royal Typewriter, Victor, Canon and Toshiba.  Dewitt was well known and respected as an astute businessman throughout South Texas, always putting customer service at the forefront. He remained active in the business even after semi-retiring and was truly honored by his legacy being successfully continued.

Dewitt was actively supportive of his community and various organizations, most recently serving in a variety of positions on the board of directors of Rockport Country Club.

 Dewitt was always very active in his children's and grandchildren's lives.  He was a long time Little League baseball coach and a girl’s softball coach. He loved playing golf with his grandsons and spent many an hour in the stands watching every grandchild participate in numerous sports.  He was always encouraging, offered many words of advice and could often be found sitting on a bucket catching softballs for hours.  Family was most important to Dewitt and he just enjoyed having everyone around.  Dewitt’s true love was the game of golf.  He was an avid golfer playing every chance he got.  He was proud to have had several holes in one and the accomplished feat of shooting his age. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his friends in Rockport.   

Dewitt is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Barbara Mayrant Poth, daughters, Jacque Schumacher (Kenneth) of Cuero, Wendy Gaertner (Scott) of Lakeway and son, Darren of Wimberley. Grandchildren, Matthew Schumacher (Sarah Beth) of New Braunfels, Parker Dewitt Schumacher of San Antonio, Kendra Schumacher of San Francisco, Derek Arthur Poth of Grand Saline, Desirae Poth (Justin Garibay) of Cuero; Riley Gaertner of Lakeway.  Great grandchildren; Carter and Carson Garibay and Graham Dewitt Schumacher. Sister in law and brother in law, Sandra and Larry Rutledge of Alto, New Mexico.  Niece, Tracey Rutledge Barre and nephew, Brian Rutledge.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 8th at St. Ann’s Catholic Church Petersville, Texas.  Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m.  followed by a memorial mass at 10:30.  There will be a private family burial at a later date.

Contributions can be made in Dewitt’s name to St. Ann’s church, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch or charity of donor’s choice.
