~Dorothy Vancura~![]() SHINER: Dorothy Mae Vancura, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 7, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 28, 1937 in Shiner, one of the five children born to Edmund and Indianola (Schroeder) Boehl. Dorothy was a lifetime member of UDML Lutheran Church in Shiner where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Dorothy graduated from Shiner High School in 1954 and went on to marry the love of her life, Edwin Vancura on March 29, 1958, where she followed him to Houston where he had a job. There they raised their two daughters, Diane and Kimberly until Edwin’s untimely death in 1976. Dorothy returned to Shiner where she worked in the Dietary Dept of Wagner Hospital until it closed, then worked at Tandy Brands until her retirement. Dorothy was a master seamstress, sewing many things for her children and grandchildren. She loved to quilt and do many craft projects. If something needed fixing, she would figure it out before calling a handyman. She loved the outdoors and one could find her tending her plants and her garden. She kept herself busy and “always had something to do” as she would be heard to say very often. She was a kind, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will miss her. Survivors are her daughter, Kimberly Gallia (Emery) and son-in-law, Doug Stanek; grandchildren, Amanda Stanek Vychopen (Trey), Nathan Stanek, Karis Gallia Aleman (Jordan) and Emery Gallia Jr; three great-granddaughters, Kyle, Ryan and Logan Vychopen. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin; daughter, Diane Stanek; sister, Helen Skrehot; brothers, Weldon, Clinton, and Dennis Boehl. Visitation 1 p.m. with Funeral Service at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Shiner Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating. Burial to follow at S.P.J.S.T. Cemetery. Pallbearers are Emery Gallia Jr., Nathan Stanek, Jordan Aleman, Trey Vychopen, Robert Bartels and Mark Duhe. Memorials may be given to Hospice of South Texas or Shiner Lutheran Church. The Vancura family would like to thank Hospice of South Texas and Shiner Nursing and Rehab for their continued care and support. Arrangements by Thiele Cooper Funeral Home, 361-293-5656.
