~Joseph Goode~
YOAKUM: Joseph Henry Goode, 80, passed away March 19, 2026 at home surrounded by family. He was born March 15, 1946, in Texas City to Lottie Mae Johnson and Claude Goode, Sr. He was the baby of four children, and he grew up in Port O’Connor, Texas. After graduating from high school, Joe started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He made a career doing a variety of different jobs for SBC, sometimes even leaving home to go assist with repairs for locations ravaged by hurricanes. He retired from Southwestern Bell and went on to do various other things over the years, including eventually driving a bus for Sweet Home ISD, where he thoroughly enjoyed seeing the kids on his route every day. Joe’s hobbies included hunting, playing dominoes, gardening, and drinking Pearl beer. Although he worked at his own pace (his motto was “On time is when I get there”), he also liked building things and fashioning new contraptions. Joe is survived by his son, Wesley Goode (Marcy); daughter, Courtney Zinke; granddaughters, Kiley Goode and Dru Zinke; grandsons, Brayden Goode and Lane Zinke; older brother Billy Goode (Carol); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and by his sisters, Roberta Riley and Mary Buxkemper. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum, Texas, with Pastor Elvis Whaley officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum. Pallbearers include Robert Barrera, Michael Cortright, Ricky Cortright, Mike Gonzales, Robby Hagan, Johnny Hawes, Lucas Janak, Covey Morrow, Jr., and Jim Parker. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of South Texas so that they may continue with their mission of assisting families in keeping their loved ones cared for during difficult times. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and aides of Hospice of South Texas and Dr. Courtney Welch for everything that they did for Joe.
